About St. Conaire’s
St. Conaire’s is a mixed school under the patronage of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Killaloe. The school opened in 1968 and was extended in 1974 and again in 2013. The main building contains two blocks of eight classrooms each and these are linked by an annexe consisting of administrative offices, learning support rooms and an assembly hall. Three new classrooms were added in 2013. We also have an associated pre-school, Little Bubbles, on site. Children from the pre-school join us in Junior Infants each September.
Organisation of the school
There are two classes at each level in the school. We aim, where possible, to start new Junior Infants in small classes. Teachers adopt a co-operative approach to the delivery of the primary school curriculum. The school has written policies and procedures that are observed by all staff. Teachers spend a considerable amount of time co-ordinating their teaching both at class level and between class levels. Teachers meet formally as a staff regularly over the course of the school year to review their work. A team of Special Needs Assistants work closely with the teachers and parents to support pupils who have been allocated SNA access. Administrative services are provided by a full-time secretary and our buildings are maintained by a full-time caretaker and cleaner.
