The chess league for the 2013/2014 school year was very successful. Organised by Ms. Garry, the pupils met on Fridays at lunchtime and played off chess games against each other. Many thanks to Ms. Garry and Mr. O’Brien for introducing this wonderful game to our pupils. Many of our former pupils have gone on to represent Shannon in the Community Games Chess Competition with distinction.
A fitness camp was organised as an after-school activity for pupils in 5th class in 2013. The aims of this programme were (1) to improve fitness levels; (2) to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and (3) to encourage social interaction among pupils from the different classes.
The camp is now run by staff from October to May. It commenced on October 16th, 2013. Indoor activities were organised for wet evenings. Participation levels were high and pupils were reported to derive great benefit from the camp.
